Posted - 02/24/2006 : 4:43:59 PM Based in part on Gary's glowing recommendations, I've decided to sign up for a billing company. I'm going with Member Solutions, formerly Professional Payment Systems, which is the same one Gary uses. Automated billing will start in April. I let you guys know how it goes. |

I tell them it's just like buying a gym membership. It's up to them if they show up and use it or not. |

Well, I let my students know this past week that we are moving to an automated billing system and gave them the specifics of how it will work. So far, one student who started a few months ago told me that he won't be able to train with me for awhile because he just purchased a piece of land and is building a house on it, so time and finances are going to be tight. I have no reason to disbelieve him, but I can't help but think that asking him to move onto an automated system might have pushed him to this decision.
You can always let him pay you in person, but tell him to not let anyone know you are doing that for him.
I did tell him that, if going on the automated system was causing him some discomfort, I would be willing to let him stay on the current system. He told me that he appreciated the offer and felt the automated system was actually a good system. However, he truly does have a time management problem with his property and thinks it will be about 6 months before he can return to train. So, hopefully, that will be the case. |

I think I adequately addressed his concerns, but we'll see what his response is.

Explain that monthly dues are just that,,,, dues. It is no different than being a member of a club. If you don't go to club meetings it is your own fault.
Just as he feels he shouldn't have to pay for classes he doesn't take, explain that you are a small class and that the class should not suffer because his attendance isn't consistant. After all, martial arts requires at least some degree of commitment. |
