Posted - 02/26/2008 : 08:00:34 AM My name is Phil. I’m a critical-care RN and EMT in Northern Virginia with over 10 years of experience in emergency medicine. I’m an avid fan of MMA, train Krav Maga regularly, and just recently started BJJ (which I’m horrible at). What I’m looking for is any information, tips, leads, etc on how to get involved in the medical aspect of MMA. Specifically, how to become a “Cut Man”. Any information you can throw my way would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Posted - 02/26/2008 : 8:32:01 PM Hey Phil, Krav Maga is pretty hardcore. i bet your a bad dude. Everybody watch out for Phil!
i'd say if you're going to get into the medical aspect of MMA go all the way and become a ring docter. i'm sure you're more qualified than the majority of idiots that get thrown in to low budget MMA shows |

Posted - 02/26/2008 : 1:58:30 PM Hi Phil...I'm a manager/trainer and cut-man for mma fighters. Becoming a cut-man is by experience and training. It appears that you have more ems training than most cut-man...so you shouldn't have any problems. Things I use..... Towel Nose bleeds...Silver nitrate, large Q-tips, 3x3 Lacerations...Q-tips(wooden handle), 3x3, 4x4, adrenaline hydrochloride on Q-tips, vaseline Swelling...Enswell, ice These are the usual tools of the trade that you'll see around fights. There really isn't any magic or special ems training. |
