Has anyone ever seen a movie where the lead character is able to see into the future? Nearly 16 years ago when I opened my 600-square-foot school, I had no idea that I would have four schools on Long Island, N.Y. and one in Bermuda. My vision at the time was small. My dreams were really not even dreams. I wanted a place to hang my hat. I thought it would be nice to be able to have a school, the respect of some students, and if all went well, to make a few dollars to add to the income stream I had from my full-time job.
I can't believe what has transpired in that short amount of time. Recently I had a conversation with one of my longest training students, Frank Olmeda. He has been with me over 15 years and remains one of my most loyal students at my school. He also runs one of my other successful schools in Long Island and is well respected within our organization. Back about 15 years ago, he and I hardly knew each other and he was barely a Yellow Belt in my school. He reminded me of a conversation we had back then, and about how I painted a picture for him of what I believed the future held for the both of us. Some may say it is eerie; others may say it is insight; I say it is determination and a clear vision. All the things we spoke about have come to fruition. To this day I can't believe it myself: I said I wanted to teach thousands of students, and I have; I also said I wanted to own my own buildings, and I do - many; I wanted to build a retreat and have a place to host a Ninja Summit, and we own a 20-acre ranch in the mountains of Ellenville, N.Y. I can't believe that each and every thing we spoke about and more has come true. Amazing!
What is your vision? Do you have one? What do you wish for? What dreams do you have? Your vision is not only important to the growth of your company, it is also imperative for future or existing employees. Without a vision your dreams are dead in the water. You as the leader need to spell out your vision. I recommend that you take the time to write your dreams, your goals, your concepts, thoughts and theories on paper. Then, once you have a concept, you can start putting the dreams into action. What can you do to help make your dreams become a reality? Can you get a personal mentor or join a group, organization, or franchise that can help you achieve what you desire? What is it that you will do to develop a MAP - a Massive Action Plan?
Dreaming big is the most important thing. I am sure people such as Tiger Woods, Steven Seagal, Tony Robbins, Bill Gates and other high achievers believed in what they dreamed and knew that one day they would achieve success far above any other person they knew. The thought "you must believe in order to succeed" is totally correct and in a biblical sense the statement "ask and ye shall receive" is true. A recently released movie called "The Secret" is based on the power of intention, or as I call it, vision. If you can see it and if you believe it, it will happen.
Take the time right now to write down your thoughts on paper. Do not wait and put it off until you forget about it. Take the time to write down your vision. Spell out exactly what you want, what you believe in, and how you are going to achieve it. Do not leave anything to chance. Do you want to own your own island, sports car, house on the hill? Do you want to be a multiple school owner? Do you want to have a family, be more spiritual, win the U.F.C or just live a quiet, content, happy life? No matter what the dream, you must put your thoughts on paper.
