Anyone have a list of their sparring rules?

Do you require students to sign a copy?

we don't have to sign anything for sparring. However, it is a by invitation only. the instructor has to be able to trust you before you can spar. and I'm talking about MMA sparring, not just grappling in class.
The instructor has to trust everyone b/c we go pretty hard. don't want a spaz in there ending up injuring someone.

We have to come up with a set list of sparring rules for each student.

It's required by our insurance.

It really is a good way to add a level of protection to your martial arts business too. I think it's a good idea. A guy can't come ack later with the "But I didn't know" excuse.

makes sense re. insurance. but they could do that anyway, just by saying they didn't recieve the list. Everyone signs paperwork which includes liability stuff before they can even attend a regular class. And as far as sparring, ground sparring in regular class is only done once a student has been there for 3months or the instructor thinks you are ready. and again, mma sparring is very select.

They would have to sign copy of the list.

I like that idea. Does the insurance company provide a template or you on your own with that?

Gary: call the insurance company. i just talked to a company in California, and they told me that they give their clients templates that were written by insurance lawyers. might be something to look into.

Ill have to agree with the other guy, we dont have an rules, forms or contracts,,, We just throw down! I have an old basement below my gym, with soft dirt floor. I keep a couple shovels down there and if anyone gets hurt and cries about it we just make em disappear!!!

I use a form I had to sign years ago while training with some of the older guys that brought mma here.
Its very basic. Just says you realize our training envolves techniques that can cause serious injury or death and that we are not held liable for any injury that may result. Its come in helpful once....
I'm very serious about this.
We had a guy that was about 6'4" 225lb Worked out everyday. a real animal in the guy.
Had a heart condition he didn't tell us about. it wasn't on his medical form.
He was mma sparring and DIED on the mat.
There was 6 of us that was CPR cert. but we could not save him. The emts where there in 11 min. he was in the ER in about 16 min after he stopped breathing and the ER dac told us he would not guarantee that he could have saved him if that would have happened in the ER.
Cover your ass guys....Even your best friend might be a heart attack waiting to happen. have health form and get them signed. release forms get them signed. My wife is the most importwnt part of our gym... as soon as a guy enters she has the forms in their hands.
if I do a seminar we take the forms.
I dodn't feel like paying for someone elses ego. "I'm ok - Nothing will happen to me" yeah right.
